Gaspar co-heads the Litigation and Tax practice. Gaspar has over a decade of experience in Commercial and Tax Litigation and Dispute resolution generally. He has successfully represented clients in over 100 cases including over 20 tax cases involving a range of issues.

Gaspar has acted for multinational corporations on a range of tax disputes and dealing with issues on the assessment of income tax and VAT disputes, transfer pricing issues and international taxation generally.

He has also advised clients on legal aspects of both international and local taxation. He is also experienced on commercial arbitration and has handled several arbitration matters before International Arbitration Forums and Ad Hoc Tribunals.

He was admitted to the bar in 2004.

  • LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Dar es Salaam
  • Master’s degree in Law (International Trade and Investment Law) from the University of Cape Town
  • He has attended various training including a summer training in International Commercial Arbitration at the American University Washington College of Law.
  • Successfully represented a multinational provider of ground and air cargo services in challenging a tax assessment issued by the Tanzania Revenue Authority in excess of TZS 500 million before the Tanzania Tax Appeal Tribunal.
  • Successfully represented an international construction company in an ICC arbitration against a local contractor in connection with the construction of appron slabs at an airport in Mbeya involving in excess of TZS 2 billion.
  • Successfully represented a local bank in a dispute involving over TZS 10 billion against a defaulting borrower in connection with milling business in Dar es Salaam.
  • Successfully represented an Australian drilling company in a TZS 2 billion income tax dispute against the Tanzania Revenue Authority.
  • Successfully represented a container inspection company which was a subsidiary of international container inspection company in a US$8 million VAT dispute against the Tanzania Revenue Authority.
  • Successfully represented an International Norwegian Company in an ICC Arbitrations in Paris against the Tanzania national roads agency in a US$1 million dispute involving breach of contract.
  • Represented a major mobile telephone company in a claim against a bank for wrongful conversion of property at the High Court-Commercial Division;
  • Successfully represented Vodacom Tanzania Limited and Zanzibar Telecom Limited in a dispute against the decision of the telecommunication regulatory authority which had mandated mobile networks to block several customers from usage of such networks on failure to register;
  • Advised Standard Chartered Bank on corruption practices in connection with ESCROW account held at the bank of Tanzania.
  • Represented several major mining clients in anti-corruption investigation issues related to land compensation.
  • Represented a logistic and Cargo freight company in relation to corruption issues at Dar es Salaam port.
  • Undertook a review of account opening documents for a major international bank in order to ensure that the bank was in compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering Laws introduced in the United Republic of Tanzania.
